Seasoning cast iron skillet? Learn to how to do this in 4 easy steps and you're ready to make your favorite cast iron skillet recipes for crepes.

Many new pans today are pre-seasoned when you buy them.

However, if you happen to buy one that has not been seasoned (or if you have not used your pan in a very long time), you should season it before using.

Follow the easy directions below and you'll be making crepes in no time!

Seasoning Your Cast Iron Skillet in 4 Easy Steps:

  1. Begin by washing it with soap and water to remove the waxy coating.
  2. Rinse and dry it very well.
  3. Rub the inside with a rag that has been dipped in shortening or vegetable oil.
  4. Bake the pan for an hour at 300 degrees.

Note: Some recommend letting the pan sit overnight in the oven once it has been turned off, but a good many others believe that this step is not really necessary. In any event, seasoning your pan will guard against rust and help prevent food from sticking.
