Chutney recipes make wonderful toppings for warm dessert crepes.

And this recipe is excellent with our ham leftover recipes for crepes.

Both sweet and savory, it also makes a yummy side dish all on its own.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp of butter
  • 1 shallot, chopped
  • ¼ cup of light brown sugar
  • ½ tsp of salt
  • 3 pears, peeled and coarsely chopped
  • ½ tsp of fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tbsp of balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp of fresh lemon juice

Melt butter in medium skillet over medium heat. Add brown sugar, salt and shallot and cook for 5 minutes or until sugar is absorbed and shallot is tender. Add pears and next 3 ingredients. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for an additional 6-8 minutes or until pears pierce easily with a fork but are not mushy.

Yield: About 2 cups
